Revolution Radio is the twelfth studio album of American punk rock - band Green Day .

Emergence

Even before the album was released, the single Bang Bang as well as the songs Revolution Radio and Still Breathing were released in August 2016 . At the same time, stop-motion videos with the songs and lyrics were posted on the Facebook page . It is the first album since the 21st Century Breakdown from 2009 that the band has recorded again as a trio with the core line-up Armstrong / Dirnt / Cool. Jason White , who has been playing the second guitar live since the late 1990s, was not involved in the recordings as a band member , unlike in the Uno , Dos , and Tré trilogy .

The Revolution Radio Tour started in September 2016 . Concerts in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand were planned until summer 2017.

The album was released on October 7, 2016. In contrast to the previous albums, it was produced by the band itself. The focus of the texts is again on social and political issues.

The song Ordinary World is also the title track of the film of the same name , in which Billie Joe Armstrong plays the leading role.

Singles

Bang bang

The first single, Bang Bang , was released on August 11, 2016. According to Armstrong, it relates to the "culture of rampaging" in the United States. In the music video, which appeared on September 13, a trio wearing masks of the band members rob a bank and then attend a concert by the band.

Still Breathing

The second single, Still Breathing, was released in November 2016.

Ordinary World

The third single, Ordinary World, was released in January 2017. The piece also appears in the film of the same name, Ordinary World , in which Billie Joe Armstrong plays the leading role.

Revolution radio

The fourth single was Revolution Radio in May 2017 and the music video in June 2017.

reception

The star wrote:

“The music is furious and yet melodic, the guitars are booming, the drums are rushing. From the texts you can read frustration with society and politics, as in 2004 with the rock opera “American Idiot”. But then there is the youthful energy of the «Dookie» era in the mid-1990s. "

Laut.de judges somewhat mixed:

“In the end, 'Revolution Radio' looks like a sovereign and solid record. But the announced revolution does not materialize - and that is a good thing. Green Day make a noticeably more relaxed impression, the record itself sounds more personal and honest. [...]

There is not much to complain about, but also not much to praise - there are neither real outliers nor surprises upwards or downwards. And even if the second half drops a little, 'Revolution Radio' seems like a piece and rushes cleanly through the system "
