action

A devastating virus turns people into hallucinating, violent beings before it kills them. The neurological disease will eventually wipe out almost all of humanity.

Six months after the outbreak of the pandemic , the few survivors are fighting for bare survival. Wandering Daniel, whose family fell victim to the plague, seeks refuge on a remote farm in rural Scotland . There he meets the youthful April, who is isolated and traumatized and copes with her dreary everyday life. The orphaned lady of the house turns out to be harsh and not particularly hospitable; she also reacts extremely aggressively to questions about her past. Despite initial distrust, the young woman gives Daniel shelter. However, the rural idyll is deceptive. The property is a magnet for those infected, who are killed by April every evening with a gun.

One day the dodgy ex-nurse Kate joins the duo. April soon suspects a potential carrier of infection in the stranger who cannot be recognized at first glance. Although Daniel does not comply with April's assessment, he asks Kate to leave the property - in the meantime Daniel expresses the suspicion that April has acquired immunity to the virus. Kate agrees to comply, although she later tries to kidnap April to an infirmary. However, the kidnapping fails miserably and Kate is infected. With presence of mind, April the shackled Daniel rushes to the aid and saves her from certain death. Pressed by infected people, the two then flee back to the farm, where they barricade themselves.

When Kate tries to kill Daniel at the end of the film, the apathetic April saves her roommate's life. In the last scene of the film, the hopeless Daniel releases his infected son, whom he has left behind, from the disease.
