The Face (climbing route)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Face (sometimes just: Face ), after the English word for face , is a climbing route in the Altmühltal in the southern Franconian Jura . The route, located on the Schnellneckkopf on the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal near Altessing , was first walked in 1983 by Jerry Moffatt and rated UIAA X- . Wolfgang Fietz was able to climb the individual trains beforehand. It was the first time in Germany and the second time worldwide (after Dave Cuthbertson's Requiem, which was first started in Scotland in the same year ) that a route was rated with this grade. The first repetition succeeded Stefan Glowacz in 1983 after numerous attempts. In 2001, Marietta Uhden was the first woman to climb the route.

The approximately 20 meter long route runs through a vertical, partially slightly overhanging slab and is extremely technically demanding.
