The Ferris Wheel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ferris Wheel was a British band from the late 1960s that combined soul with psychedelic rock .

Band history

At the end of 1966, members of various music groups joined together under the name "The Ferris Wheel". Singer Diane Ferraz from Trinidad previously formed the duo "Diane & Nicky" with Nicky Scott. The brothers Dave (saxophone) and George Sweetnam (bass, vocals) and Barry Reeves (drums) came from the "Checkmates", the backing band of Emile Ford ( Emile Ford and the Checkmates ). Mike Liston (keyboards, vocals) was previously with the band "West Five". The group was completed by the guitarist Keith Anthony.

At first they called themselves "Diane Ferraz & the Simon's Triangle". "Simon" was referring to Simon Napier-Bell , the group manager who previously looked after Diane & Nicky. The new name was a play on words from the singer's family name, Ferraz, and the first modern Ferris wheel by the American GWG Ferris ("Ferris Wheel").

The band had great success with live performances, but less so with their records . In 1967 the album Can't Break the Habit was released , from which three singles were decoupled, none of which, however, could place in the charts. There have been some changes in the line-up over time. So Diane Ferraz withdrew from the music business, Marsha Hunt came first , then Linda Lewis . The fourth single and the second album were recorded with Lewis in 1970. A little later the group broke up.
