Simon Napier-Bell
Simon Napier-Bell (born April 22, 1939 in Ealing , London , England ) is a British music manager , producer , musician , composer and author . Musicians and bands he has worked with include The Yardbirds , John's Children , Marc Bolan , Japan , London , Asia , Ultravox , Boney M. , Sinitta , Wham! , Blue Mercedes , Alsou and Candi Staton .
Live and act
At a young age, Simon Napier-Bell worked as a musician and contemplated becoming a writer. In 1961 he started as a film editing assistant, later he also worked in the field of film music. He worked with Burt Bacharach on the music for the film What's new, Pussycat (1965) .
In 1966 Napier-Bell wrote the English lyrics for Dusty Springfield's first number 1 hit You Don't Have to Say You Love Me . In the same year he became the manager of the Yardbirds , John's Children and Marc Bolan .
In 1968 Napier-Bell began a successful collaboration with music producer Ray Singer . The bands and performers they produced included The Scaffold (the group included Paul McCartney's brother Mike McGear ), Peter Sarstedt, and Forever More (which later became the Average White Band ). In Australia, Napier-Bell produced Alison McCallum, Bobbi Marchini and John Paul Young , in Spain Júnior (with whom he had the Spanish super hit Perdóname in 1973 ).
In 1976/77 Napier-Bell took over the management of the bands Japan and London . In 1981 he wrote his first book You Don't Have To Say You Love Me about his experiences in the music business in the 1960s.
In 1983 he became manager of the already successful pop group Wham! Together with Jazz Summers. Napier-Bell organized with Wham! 1985 the first ever concert by a western pop band in China.
In the second half of the 1980s, Napier-Bell managed Blue Mercedes , Boney M. and CC Catch, among others . Together with 'Sir' Harry Cowell, he took over the management of the once successful bands Asia and Ultravox in 1992 .
In 2000 Napier-Bell and the Russian singer Alsou came second in the Eurovision Song Contest . In 2001 his second book, Black Vinyl White Powder, appeared on the music business. From 2002 he was in Russia with the group Smash !! successful, a pop duo resembling Wham !. In 2005, Napier-Bell's third book, I'm Coming To Take You To Lunch , came out, in which he tells how he played Wham! brought to China.
Simon Napier-Bell has lived mainly in Thailand since 2007. He is still active in the music business.
