The Football is a prominent rock formation on the Borchgrevink coast of East Antarctica, Victoria . The rock juts out on the north side of Football Mountain from a ridge between Edisto Glacier and Tucker Inlet . Around it there is an even slope of snow, which makes it a striking landmark for driving to the nearby Hallett station .
Scientists from a 1957 to 1958 campaign as part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition named it descriptive because its shape is reminiscent of a football .
