The Forsythe Company was a ballet company founded in 2005 by the dancer and choreographer William Forsythe in Frankfurt am Main and directed until summer 2015. Since the 2015/2016 season she has been performing under the new name Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company with Jacopo Godani , a former Forsythe dancer, as artistic director.

history

At the end of the 2003/2004 season, William Forsythe dissolved the Frankfurt Municipal Ballet , which he had directed for 20 years, and founded The Forsythe Company as a private ballet company in which he worked with a free formation of dancers. On April 21, 2005, she started playing in Frankfurt with the world premiere of Three Atmospheric Studies , a choreography that Forsythe had developed together with the group of dancers. Supported The Forsythe Company through the cities of Frankfurt and Dresden , the countries Hessen and Saxony and private sponsors such as the Frankfurt patronage Association for the Municipal Theater eV

The venues were the Bockenheimer Depot in Frankfurt and the Festspielhaus Hellerau in Dresden, which had already housed modern dance before the First World War. In addition, guest performances have taken place in various cities, including the Prinzregententheater in Munich, the Théâtre national de Chaillot in Paris and the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. In June 2015 The Forsythe Company performed with the choreography Nowhere and Everywhere at the Same Time in the festival program of the Biennale Danza as part of the Biennale di Venezia . A piece, originally developed for a solo dancer and 40 pendulums, which premiered in an empty building on New York's High Line Park and has been continuously developed.

In April 2014, William Forsythe announced that he would be retiring from the management of the Forsythe Company "for health reasons". His successor, the Italian dancer and choreographer Jacopo Godani, belonged from 1991 to 2000 to the Ensemble Ballett Frankfurt , directed by Forsythe . Since the 2015/2016 season, the formation has been performing under the new name Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company and once a year also performs one of Forsythe's repertoire works. The cooperation agreement with the cities of Frankfurt am Main and Dresden was initially extended to 2018, and then to December 31, 2021 at the end of 2017.
