The Golden Section is the third solo album by former Ultravox singer John Foxx . It was released on Virgin Records in 1983 .

Emergence

According to his liner notes for the compilation album Assembly , Foxx was bored in 1983 by his perception of the uniform sound of current music releases and went in search of his musical roots: “Beatles, church music, psychedelia, The Shadows, The Floyd, The Velvets, Roy Orbison , Kraftwerk and cheap pre-electro europop “For the first time since Systems of Romance (1978), Foxx worked again with a producer: The album was co-produced by Bernd“ Zeus B. ”Held, who in the 1970s worked as a pianist and songwriter for the Krautrock band Birth Control and had recently started his own business as a producer in London. The Golden Section was created in Foxx's own "The Garden" studio, which he set up in 1981 for the recordings of The Garden in a country house in Surrey and with which he moved to the basement of a Victorian building in Shoreditch , London shared with sculptor Denis Masi, photographer Pete Mackevitch and filmmaker Chris Gabrin.

In late 1983 Foxx embarked on a tour known as "The Golden Section Tour", his first as a solo artist, to promote the album. Recordings of two concerts in London were released in 2002 as part of the double live CD The Golden Section Tour + The Omnidelic Exotour .

reception

Steven Grant and Brad Reno from Trouser Press reminds the album of the psychedelic late phase of the Beatles. You certify Foxx's dazzling creativity beyond clichés, but criticize his singing.
