The Hockey News is a North American Hockey - journal . The magazine, mostly abbreviated to THN , was launched in 1947 by Ken McKenzie . It has since been the most recognized ice hockey publication in the United States and Canada .

The magazine appears weekly between September and May, the general period of an ice hockey season, and once a month in the summer months.

The magazine mainly deals with reporting from the North American professional league National Hockey League , with which there is a close cooperation. Further topics are the various junior leagues ( OHL , WHL , QMJHL ), minor leagues ( AHL , ECHL ) and college leagues ( NCAA ), as well as ice hockey outside of North America. In addition to the magazine, a yearbook is published every year at the end of the season and five other special issues with the titles Season Opener , People of Power and Influence , Future Watch , Draft Preview and Season In Review appear in the course of the year .

The magazine is available in North America as well as in Europe and can even be viewed worldwide via the website.
