The Most Serene Republic

The Most Serene Republic is a Canadian indie rock band from Milton, Ontario . The name refers to the independent Republic of Venice at the time of the Doges , which was known as the "Most Serene Republic".

Ryan Lenssen and Adrian Jewett originally founded a duo in mid-2003 under the name Thee Oneironauts (pronounced: O-nye-rawn-nauts) and recorded an EP called Night of the Lawnchairs , which is based on Lenssen's concept tape "Rushing to Redlights" based. Thee Oneironauts developed into a trio when guitarist Nick Greaves joined them.

The band, which now had six members, made their debut as The Most Serene Republic in 2004 with Underwater Cinematographer on the Sunday League Records label . A slightly modified version was released on the Arts & Crafts label in the summer. The Most Serene Republic were the first band on this label that wasn't in any way part of the Broken Social Scene . On October 2, 2007, the second album Population was released .
