The city of Milton is the seat of the Halton Region in the Greater Toronto Area in Canada .
Milton, about 40 km west of Toronto on the edge of the Niagara layer , was originally settled by the Attiwandaronon (or Hatiwantarunh) Iroquois tribe, founded on May 17, 1818 and finally a town on May 27, 1857.
Sports
The Mattamy National Cycling Center was opened in Milton in January 2015 with a cycle track that meets international standards. The track serves as the venue for the 2015 Pan American Games and the Parapan American Games . It is the only one of its kind in Canada.
