Michael Foley (born January 12, 1999 in Milton ) is a Canadian cyclist who competes in races on track and road .

Athletic career

Michael Foley comes from Milton where the since 2015 Mattamy National Cycling Center with a velodrome is located. He got into cycling through the father of a friend and initially competed in mountain bike races. When the cycling track opened in his hometown, he switched to track cycling. He was accepted into the centre's high-performance program and trained by Olympian Steve Bauer . In 2014 Foley drove his first races, initially on the road. In 2017 Foley competed in the Road World Championships and the Tour de l'Abitibi , but put his focus on the track. At the 2017 Junior World Track Championships, he started in several disciplines, but with little success.

From 2018, Foley started in the elite and became two-time Canadian champion, in team pursuit and in two-man team driving . He also became the youngest member of the Canadian national team at the age of 18. At the Commonwealth Games he finished third in the team pursuit with Jay Lamoureux , Aidan Caves and Derek Gee . In 2019 he took part in the Pan American Championships and won two titles: in the points race and with Derek Gee, Jay Lamoureux and Vincent De Haître in the team pursuit. In the same year he again won two national titles. At the rail world championships in the same year, the Canadian four-man finished fourth with Foley.
