The Movement are a 3-piece mod rock band from Copenhagen ( Denmark ).

history

Kalle Mathisen still played drums in the original line-up. From the second record ( Revolutionary Sympathies ) Stefan Andersen took over the drums, but in summer 2005 they were replaced by Søren Spannow.

On July 31, 2007, Lukas Scherfig announced the end of the band. After many years with several hundred concerts and many tours with well-known bands through Europe and Japan, it is now time for Lukas to step out of the band structure and continue as a solo artist.

The last two concerts took place in January 2007 in the Netherlands. Even there, Søren Spannow no longer played drums. Instead, Stefan Andersen took over the stool again. Recordings of these concerts were made for a possible live album.

In spring 2010 Lukas Scherfig announced concerts as the "Lukas Sherfey Power Trio" for autumn 2010 as part of his solo project ("Lukas Sherfey"). At these concerts old The Movement songs should be played, combined with the new songs from the solo album. However, a short time later on May 28, 2010, Lukas announced the comeback of The Movement via YouTube video. A tour followed on which Stefan Andersen took over the drums again. With the reunion, long-time bassist Lars Schaedler was replaced by Chandu Chodavarapu. Shortly after the release of the Still Living The Dream EP , the band announced their new drummer Kasper Rasmussen, Lukas Scherfig's cousin.

In summer and autumn 2011, the band went back to the old days and played many shows in Europe again. Before another European tour, The Movement will release their third studio album Fools Like You in September 2012 . After numerous concerts, there was another line-up in the summer of 2013. The young bassist Sebastian Page took over the bass from Chandu Chodavarapu. Further line-up on drums followed.

style

Their musical style can roughly be classified as mod punk rock with ska elements. In the meantime the band has renounced the Ska influence completely. Lukas says in an interview: "..., Ska is almost a finished chapter for us. When we play live in Germany a song like 'Control Your Temper' is a big hit, so I guess we have to play some ska influenced songs. But we are more in to the Soul / Mod thing. " Musically, The Movement are mainly influenced by The Jam , The Who and The Clash .

The Movement are always well dressed on stage, reminiscent of the old Mod slogan: "Clean life in difficult circumstances."

Surname

There are two different interpretations of the name "The Movement":

Moving to music: The Movement is a band with high energy. When The Movement is on stage, the audience just can't stand still anymore ...

Political Movement: The Movement wants to secure the "working class". The main goal is to encourage young people to question everything. Although the band cannot be assigned to any political group and refuses to be co-opted for the interests of individuals, politically they can be located in the left spectrum. Her influences range from Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Marx to Joe Strummer and Paul Weller .
