The Multicolored Shades were a psychedelic rock band from Marl that existed from 1984 to 1990.

history

The band was formed in 1984. The typical element of their music was the "excessive" use of the organ. The first two records , a 6-track mini-album entitled The Multicolored Shades and the album House of Wax , were released on the independent label Last Chance Records in Dortmund. The third record Sundome City Exit was released in 1987 by Virgin Records . This record contained the song Teen Sex Transfusion , which became a small hit as a single release. After the moderate success of their follow-up album Ranchero! the group disbanded in 1990. On the occasion of a short-lived reunion of the band with the line-up of Barany, Maleike, Doering, Bizer and Gremm, a compilation album was released in early 2002 . On April 8, 2002, Pete Barany died of a psychiatric drug overdose. The band broke up as a result.

The only band member who was able to celebrate success apart from the Multicolored Shades is guitarist Eddie Wagner, who already worked with Phillip Boa and the Voodooclub during his time with the band and was involved in various albums there until 1993. Guitarist Heinz-Werner Maleike has been a member of the rock band B ・ Bus since 1994, with whom he released five unsuccessful albums. Bassist Michael Doering, like drummers Martin Heimes and Bernd Gremm, turned their backs on music, although in 2004 Doering stood out as a lyricist for singer Kerstin Merlin from the Schlagerduo Rotblond . Keyboarder Detlev Bizer played after the Multicolored Shades with the Solingen neo-psychedelic band The Cheeks .

In 2016 and 2018, a total of nine previously unreleased pieces by the band were released as two EPs by the Bremen label Fuego Records .
