The Nation was founded in 1865 by Edwin Lawrence Godkin and is the oldest weekly magazine in the United States. The publisher is The Nation Company, LP , New York City , 33 Irving Place.
The nation today
The Nation has correspondent offices in Budapest , London and South Africa .
The magazine does not cover its costs, but is supported by a group of around 30,000 donors, the “Nation Associates”.
The editor and publishing director is currently Victor Navasky , editor-in-chief is Katrina vanden Heuvel . Her predecessors included journalist Carey McWilliams .
