The Nerves was an American power pop band from the late 1970s to early 1980s around singer-songwriters Peter Case, Paul Collins and Jack Lee . Lee penned the Hanging on the Telephone and Come Back and Stay covered by Blondie , with which Paul Young landed a hit in 1983. The Plimsouls and Paul Collins' Beat emerged from the Nerves .
