The Orange Strips are an English-speaking Croatian guitar pop band .

history

founding

The music group “The Orange Strips” was founded in the spring of 2002 by Valdet Luboteni and Renato Zic while they were studying in Rijeka . After a few weeks, during which time some lyrics were written, the band Vedran Gergorić and Goran Brezac from Labin and Borjan Batagelj from Opatija joined them. Her taste in music for bands like The Smiths , Radiohead , Suede , REM , Coldplay and Nirvana also influenced her.

Beginnings

The band's first music tapes were created through Low Fidelity . The songs composed and played in this way were presented to local radio stations and entered the music top list. At the end of 2002 the band was preparing for their first concert, which took place in January 2003 in the Labin club “Baza”. Her first appearance was positively rated by the Croatian daily Glas Istre . Another successful appearance in the club followed.

First successes

In spring 2003 the band released their first self-made demo CD . These recordings were distributed to radio stations all over Croatia , the most successful were the songs on local radio in Istria and in Rijeka. Her first big success was the song "Nekad" ( Once ), which in November 2003 reached first place in the national top list of Radio Istria.

Some songs were also featured in the top lists on the Internet, especially on the music portal music.vip.hr. Among them “Pieces” and “Lemon Sister”. Both titles stayed at the top of the charts and were in first place for four weeks. In September 2003 Renato Nalić joined the band as a drummer . The band was completed with the new lead guitarist Tedi Mirković.

A new demo CD was recorded. The song "The Fire" recorded on it entered the "Demo Top 5 list" of the Croatian youth broadcast, HRT , "Briljanteen" at the beginning of March 2004 and reached first place twice in a row. After that, the band held a total of fifteen gigs in Croatia.
