The Pechstein

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pechstein , also known as a Riesling guitar , is an electric guitar made of oak. The idea came from the winemaker Kirk Bauer, she was the manager of the estate of Winning Stephan Attmann in Deidesheim , the coopers Ralf Mattern and the luthier Jens Ritter supported.

The guitar was presented at the winery on October 22, 2017 and played by Michael Koschorreck , a lecturer at the Mannheim Pop Academy. This also attested that it had a good sound.

The guitar body was made from Palatinate oak and then placed in a barrel made from the same oak. The barrel had a glass bottom. In this barrel with the guitar, 500 liters of Riesling from the Forster Pechstein vintage 2015 were then fermented. After a year the guitar body was removed from the barrel. The wine was bottled after three years. The proceeds from the wine sale and the auction of the guitar, which ended on December 23, 2018 with a maximum bid of € 14,000, will be donated in full to the German Children's Cancer Aid.

The interesting thing is that oak is not an instrument wood because it does not sound and it dampens vibrations a lot. Many substances were washed out of the wood by the wine, so that the wood could then sound.
