The Pinnacle (Eng .: the summit , also called Bishopsgate Tower ) was a skyscraper under construction in London , which, at 288 meters, would be one of the tallest buildings in Great Britain and all of Europe when it was completed .

The 63-story high-rise was planned by the New York architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox and financed by the German real estate fund DIFA . It will be located in the financial district in the City of London and will be the focal point of a multitude of new high-rise buildings in the city. Originally the skyscraper was supposed to be 307 meters high, but the plans had to be revised due to an objection from the British air traffic control authority . The final plans were approved on April 26, 2006 and construction was scheduled to start at the end of the same year. However, this was pushed back further and further for cost reasons and finally set to the end of 2007. Since an error was also discovered in the planning of the logistical construction process, the plans had to be revised again and the start of construction postponed for another year until the first foundations could be laid in December 2009. In March 2012, however, construction was interrupted after the first seven floors had been built. The project was canceled and replaced with a new design, but planning permission has yet to be granted. The follow-up project is called 22 Bishopsgate .

Facts

  • With 1900 m² of solar cells , The Pinnacle will be the building with the largest solar surface in England. For cost reasons, each panel is exactly the same size.
  • In order to save energy and to be able to react flexibly to climate fluctuations , the high-rise will be given an outer skin consisting of two layers.
  • When it opens, the building will offer 88,000 m² of office space.
