The Primitives is a British indie pop - band from the English Coventry and was 1985 founded by Keiron McDermott (vocals), PJ Court (real name Paul Jonathan Court, vocals, guitar), Steve Dullaghan (bass) and Pete Tweedie (drums) . Keiron was soon replaced by Tracy Tracy (real name Tracy Cattell, born in Australia). The blonde lead singer helped the band achieve great success with her distinctive voice, but it was only short-lived. The primitives' career was also promoted when The Smiths singer Morrissey named them one of his favorite bands.
Career
The Primitives appeared in the independent scene in the mid-1980s, bringing a breath of fresh air and a sense of humor to a scene dominated by the grim Gothic bands. With the successful first album Lovely, which was released in 1988, and the track Crash , which also became famous in Germany , they reach the top 5 in Great Britain and the top 3 in the USA.
In 1988, sampling , acid house and the producer trio Stock Aitken Waterman with artists such as Rick Astley or Mel & Kim gained significant importance in Great Britain and were not only represented in the British charts with hits. This is exactly where the primitives came in and offered an alternative as a classical guitar band.
The Primitives released two more albums in 1989 ( Pure and Lazy 86-88 ). In the early 1990s, the career came to an end. In 1991 they released the album Galore , but there was no commercial success. As a result of the failure, the band separated in 1992. Even if their career was short-lived, they shaped the music movement that became known a few years later as Britpop .
Other bands from the so-called "bubble pop" scene were Transvision Vamp and The Darling Buds , which sounded similar.
In 2009 the band reformed and released the album Echoes And Rhymes in 2012 .
