The Safety Dance

The Safety Dance is a pop song of the Canadian synth pop - band Men Without Hats , in 1982 on their debut album Rhythm of Youth was published. The track was written by front man and co-founder Ivan Doroschuk after he was expelled from a nightclub for pogo dancing .

The piece was released as a single in January 1983 and reached number 3 on the American Billboard Hot 100 and number 11 in Canada. In South Africa the piece became a number one hit; in Germany it reached number 2 on the charts, in Austria number 7 and in Switzerland number 4.

Movie and TV

In the comic film adaptation of X-Men: Apocalypse from 2016, the song can be heard in a three-minute scene, which, however, was cut out of the final version. The song can also be heard in the third episode of the fifth season of the TV series Scrubs . The song has another appearance in the 16th episode of the tenth season of the Simpsons .
