The Savage Rose is a Danish rock group that released their first album "The Savage Rose" (The Yellow Album) in 1968. 20 more albums had been added by 2004. The group's music is shaped by the extraordinarily diverse voice of their singer Annisette Hansen and the simultaneous use of piano , organ and accordion . The spectrum of music ranges from folk , rock , gospel , blues to classical influences.

history

In 1967 the group "Savage Rose" was founded in Copenhagen. Initially, Thomas Koppel, Anders Koppel , Flemming Ostermann, Alex Riel , Ilse Maria Koppel, Jens Rugsted and the singer Annisette Hansen were involved; In 1968 Nils Tuxen replaced Ostermann. The appearance at the Newport Festival in 1969 made the band, which initially sang their songs in English, also famous outside Denmark . The LP “In the Plain” (1968) was also very successful in Germany, especially the song “Long Before I Was Born”.

The composition of the group then changed; Ultimately, Thomas Koppel, who trained in classical music, and his future wife Annisette remained the core of the band over the years. The politically strongly committed couple closed themselves off to commerce for many years, they appeared at political events, in Palestinian camps and wherever people fought for their rights. The group also performed in the free city of Christiania , their song “De vilde blomster gror” is on Christiania's first LP, and they are also featured on the following two.

In 1995 an English-language CD was released with “Black Angel” (producer George Duke ) after Annisette had written her lyrics in Danish for 22 years. Thomas and Annisette traveled to Los Angeles for the recordings , where Annisette still lives today. They have won musicians such as Ricky Lawson , Ray Fuller, Bayron Miller and Gerald Albright for their recordings .

Thomas Koppel (born April 27, 1944) died on February 25, 2006 in Puerto Rico . Annisette continues to make music and released a new CD in November 2007. The daughters of Thomas and Annisette are also musicians; Billie Koppel founded the band "Catbird" with her partner Frank Hasselström. The debut album "Sliding from the Moon" was released in 2002.
