Chamonix NG Cars , previously Chamonix Indústria e Comércio Ltda. is a Brazilian manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Milton Masteguin and his son Newton Masteguin founded Chamonix Indústria e Comércio Ltda in 1985 . in Jarinu . First they dealt with fiberglass . In 1987 he came into contact with the American Chuck Beck. Then the production of automobiles began. A second source confirms 1985 as the year of foundation and 1987 as the first year of production. The brand name is Chamonix . In the 1990s, Auto Motor und Sport and Road & Track magazines believed that Chamonix made the best replicas in the world . Many vehicles were exported to the USA and Japan , some also to Germany .

The company also designed prototypes for Autolatina and was involved in the development of the Lobini .

In September 2010, the economic crisis in the two main sales markets, the USA and Japan, led to the cessation of production.

In 2011 there was a collaboration with A + Auto . The new location is in São Paulo . Newton Masteguin heads the company, which now operates as Chamonix NG Cars . Since July 2011, production has only been carried out according to customer orders.

From 2019 the vehicles will be produced by Athos Cars Automóveis Especiais in Campina.

vehicles

The first model was a replica of the Porsche 550 designed by Chuck Beck in 1987 . The base was a tubular frame. An open body made of fiberglass was mounted on top. The air-cooled four - cylinder boxer engine came from the VW Beetle and was mounted in a mid-engine design behind the seats. In tuned form, it made 54  hp from a displacement of 1600 cm³ . The transmission had four gears. The engine power was later increased to 65 hp. From 2001 a larger boxer engine with 1900 cm³ displacement, twin carburettors and 115 hp was also available.

In 1988, with the Super 90 Cabriolet, the replica of the Porsche 356 was added as a convertible . The forms for this were taken over from CBP , which they had previously taken over from Envemo . This model also had a tubular frame, a body made of fiberglass and the VW engines. However, the engine was mounted in the rear. Less than 30 vehicles were built by 1995.

In 1993 the Speedster was introduced under license from Beck Engineering . Technically, it corresponded to the Super 90 Cabriolet .

1995 appeared with the Spyder 550 S a variant of the Spyder 550 with a more powerful engine. The water-cooled engine from the VW Santana with a capacity of 2000 cc had an output of 92 kW (125 hp) with intake manifold injection . The transmission had five gears. The curb weight was given as 680 kg and the top speed was 230 km / h. Starting in 2007, the vehicles were powered by an engine from the VW Gol with a displacement of 1800 cm³ and an output of 76 kW (103 hp).

In 1999 a racing version of the Speedster was prepared.

In 2016 the range consisted of the Spyder S , the Speedster 356 and the Roadster 356 .

Import to Germany

Gehrke Classic Cars imported the vehicles to Germany. Another source gives a connection to Albert from Oberhausen .
