Obvio! Automotoveículos SA ( proper spelling Obvio! ) Is an automobile manufacturer from Duque de Caxias in Brazil . Translated, the brand name means something like “Well, of course!” Or “Obviously!”.

description

The company was founded in 2001 in Duque de Caxias ( State of Rio de Janeiro ). The aim was to produce a technologically highly developed city vehicle that would use all the possibilities of modern information technology in terms of technology and sales. The initial production target was 10,000 vehicles per year.

The industrial, technical and logistical effort should be borne by different companies through outsourcing. The plan was to use two-cylinder Weber engines with 750 cm³ and 40 kW (or with a turbocharger and 96 kW). Later, a domestic Tritec engine with 1.6 l displacement and 114 hp was chosen. The body made of glass fiber reinforced plastic should be supplied by MVC. Chassis and chassis should consist of elliptical Niess rings, which had been patented in 1977 by the Brazilian aerospace engineer Marc William Niess. The design was again entrusted to Anísio Campos, who was one of the four owners of the company.

Models

The previous model history was shaped by numerous, very full-bodied announcements with regard to the planned production numbers and only a few copies actually produced.

828/2

Starting in 2003, the monthly production of 50 type 828/2 small cars was initially planned. It was a modernized version of the Dacon 828 developed by Campos . The 2.65 m long 828/2 was based on Volkswagen technology (1.6-l engine and four-speed gearbox as in the Dacon) and had minor visual changes compared to the Dacon. The vehicle was awarded the 18th Design Prize of the Museu da Casa Brasileira (2004) in 2004.

Instead of the start of production, the 828/2 was completely redesigned. The Volkswagen engine technology was replaced by Tritec and the chassis was redesigned. The most obvious changes were the scissor doors and an upgraded interior, including a computer that should be permanently connected to the Internet. A corresponding prototype was exhibited at trade fairs in the USA. The estimated purchase price was given as 14,000 USD.

There are contradicting information about production. While Muzar states an annual production of 600 pieces from or for 2005, according to Scharinger , Obvio had neither started production nor the announced export to the USA until 2007. An export to Europe has already been announced.

Prototype 012

With the 012 , another study was presented, which was also designed by Anísio Campos. This 3.05 m long vehicle had a more powerful engine (163 hp) and a six-speed gearbox. The start of production was planned for the end of 2005 and should be made possible by the sale of the 828/2 models.

In November 2005, the first, albeit slightly modified, prototype of the 012 was officially presented in real size. This prototype was still not roadworthy until 2007.

828H / 828E

In 2006, electric vehicles based on the 828 and 012 were announced for export to North America. To this end, a strategic partnership was concluded with the US manufacturer ZAP, which, as the exclusive dealer, had ordered 50,000 vehicles in advance.

In October 2009, the company announced the acquisition by the Vrooom! Veículos Elétricos , but it was run by the same owners as Obvio.

Subsequently, it was planned to produce a hybrid model called 828H in three versions with 70, 140 or 200 hp, which would have a range of 500 km and accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 4 seconds. The production target for the first phase was set at 10,000 units per year and later 70,000 vehicles.

In 2014 and 2015, the production of the 828H by the buggy manufacturer Wake Motors was to begin in its plant in São José dos Pinhais . The joint venture DirijaJa , in which a British investment company is also involved, was founded for sales via a leasing system .

In 2015 the model was renamed the 828E.
