Tecnodesign Mecânica Indústria e Comércio Ltda. , previously Hofstetter Indústria e Comércio de Veículos Ltda. , was a Brazilian manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Mário Richard Hofstetter founded Hofstetter Indústria e Comércio de Veículos Ltda in 1982 . in São Paulo . In 1984 he presented a prototype . In 1986 the series production of automobiles began. The brand name was Hofstetter .

Later the company name was Tecnodesign Mecânica Indústria e Comércio Ltda. In this context, the name Cortada is also mentioned as the new owner. Production ended in 1993.

vehicles

The sports car Hofstetter Turbo , later renamed Hofstetter Cortada, was on offer . The base was a tubular frame. A fiberglass body was mounted on top. The gullwing doors of the coupés were striking . The engines came from Volkswagen do Brasil and were mounted in a mid-engine design behind the seats. First, an engine from the VW Passat with a displacement of 1600 cm³ in connection with a four-speed gearbox is mentioned, and then an engine from the VW Gol with a displacement of 1800 cm³, a turbocharger and a five-speed gearbox. Later, an engine with a capacity of 2000 cc and a turbocharger was also available, producing 210  hp . Another source names engines up to 270 hp. The maximum speed was given as 230 km / h.

Scope of production

The company's goal of producing 30 vehicles a year was not achieved. 13 vehicles had been sold by the end of 1987. In 1988 four vehicles were built. There were 19 vehicles in total.
