The Hofstetter Turbo , also called Hofstetter or Hofstetter Cortada , is a sports car that was built in Brazil by Tecnodesign Mecânica Indústria e Comércio . The car was developed by Mário Richard Hofstetter. Mario Hofstetter has Swiss roots, but was born in Brazil himself. He presented his sports car at the São Paulo Motor Show in late 1984.

The design of his Hofstetter Turbo was unusual. The car had a futuristic wedge shape, pop-up headlights and wing doors . Mario Hofstetter was inspired by a Bertone concept vehicle , the Bertone Carabo . The body of the Hofstetter was made of plastic to save weight. The curb weight is given as 1030 kg. With a wheelbase of 2340 to 2365 mm, the length is 4170 to 4180 mm, the width 1740 mm and the height 1070 mm.

Various systems were available as drive. The Hofstetter was a mid-engine vehicle. A 1.8 liter four-cylinder engine , which came from the VW Santana , developed either 65 kW (88 PS) or 73 kW (99 PS) in the basic version. With an additional exhaust gas turbocharger and double carburetor , the engine output was 113 kW (154 hp ). The factory specification for the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h was 7.6 seconds. From 1988 an engine with a displacement of 2 liters and an output of 198 kW (270 hp) was offered. This model was called the Turbo S. In addition to a manual transmission , an automatic transmission was also available.

Hofstetter also took the drive unit from Volkswagen do Brasil . However, in contrast to other Brazilian small-series vehicles, it did not use the frame of the VW Beetle as a base, but a tubular frame chassis developed in-house .

The Hofstetter was produced in small series . Only 18 vehicles were built until 1991. In November 1991 there were slight body changes. Series production ended in 1993 and the car could only be purchased on order.
