Grancar Design, Veículos Especiais Ltda. was a Brazilian manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Ottorino Toni Bianco and the Ford dealership Grancar founded the company in São Paulo in 1990 . They started producing automobiles that were marketed as the Futura . Planning amounted to ten vehicles per month. Production ended the following year. A total of 159 vehicles were built.

Only one model was on offer. The similarity to the Renault Espace I was so great that there were allegations of unauthorized replication on the part of Renault . A tubular frame formed the basis. The body was made of fiberglass . The vehicle was 425 cm long. The versions S as standard and LX for Luxury Super offered seven seats in three rows of seats. The C was a two-door box van with a tailgate. A four-cylinder engine from Volkswagen do Brasil powered the vehicles. At first it was an engine with 1800 cm³ displacement , which was also available with a turbocharger . In 1991 a larger engine with a capacity of 2000 cm³ was used. Individual parts came from the Ford Del Rey .
