The conversions were called foot up . On the VW Beetle , the body behind the doors was removed and replaced with a structure made of fiberglass . This is how pick- ups and panel vans with high roofs were created. The position of the engine in the stern prevented a low loading area.
In December 1984 a small car followed , which was only 310 cm long. A fiberglass body was mounted on a steel chassis . An air-cooled four - cylinder boxer engine from Volkswagen do Brasil with a displacement of 1600 cm³ in the rear drove the rear wheels.
