The Serpent's Star

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Serpent's Star is a computer game by the US company Brøderbund from 1983. It belongs to the genre of text adventures and is the continuation of The Mask of the Sun game .

action

The action in the style of an adventure story takes place in Tibet. The player character, the archaeologist Mac Steele , is looking for a valuable diamond ("The Serpent's Star"). To find him, he needs 13 scrolls that contain clues about his hiding place in the city of Kara-Koram. The player has to visit numerous locations in the Tibetan highlands, solve puzzles, find objects and question other characters, for example Buddhist monks.

Game principle and technology

The Serpent's Star is a text adventure, which means that the environment and events are displayed as screen text and the visualization is largely up to the player's imagination. In contrast to classic text adventures, which do not have any graphic decoration, The Serpent's Star comes up with a picture of the respective environment. The adventure is controlled by keyboard commands. The player enters control commands in the form of English words and simple sentences, which are evaluated by a parser .

Production notes

The game has two-dimensional, partially animated graphics. It was implemented for the C 64 , Atari XL and Apple II .

reception

A test report by the computer magazine Happy Computer highlighted the exciting framework, the complex puzzles and the unusual game scenarios as well as the beautiful graphics of the adventure. An American game review rated the content of the game overall as good and challenging ("a good, challenging game").
