The Singles is an American indie rock band project by mastermind Vince Frederick. The project originally came from Detroit and has been based in Los Angeles since 2010 .

Band history

The band was founded in 1999 by guitarist and singer-songwriter Vince Frederick. The original line-up included guitarist Will Yates, bassist Dave Lawson and drummer Dave Knepp. The main idea was to combine the energy of garage rock with melodies and lyrics based on vintage pop patterns. In 2003 they got a contract with the indie pop label Rainbow Quartz Records . This resulted in their debut album Better Than Before , produced by Jim Diamond . The reviews, especially in the British music press, were better than the sales. So the next album, Start Again, was n't released until three and a half years later, again with the same producer. At this point the line-up had changed to John Hale on electric bass and Brian Thunders on drums. The band released three singles in 2009 in which Frederick and Thunders played with new bassist Ryan Hurnevich.

The band broke up when Vince Frederick decided to move to Los Angeles . Since it was essentially his project anyway, he kept the name The Singles when he released the single Tomorrow I'll Be Blue in 2011 and formed a duo of the same name with drummer and singer Nicky Veltman in 2012 . Together they released the single (She's Got) A Heart of Stone in 2013 and released the singles' third studio album in 2014, Look How Fast a Heart Can Break , produced by Rick Parker .
