Rick Parker

Rick Parker (born August 19, 1978 ) is an American jazz trombonist and composer .

Parker first studied economics (Bachelor 2001) at Georgetown University , and obtained his master’s degree in jazz performance and composition at New York University in 2003 , where he studied with Conrad Herwig , Frank Lacy , Steve Davis , Mike Holober and Thad Wilson . In 2002/03 he took part in a workshop for composers and soloists as part of the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead at the Kennedy Center, where he took lessons from Curtis Fuller , Eric Reid and John Clayton . Since then he has appeared in various New York jazz clubs, such as the Blue Note , Birdland , Jazz Standard and the Jazz Gallery , mostly with his own band projects, such as the sextet Rick Parker Collective . In 2004 his debut album New York Gravity ( Fresh Sound New Talent ) was released. He is the leader of the electronica improvisation band Ambient Assault and works with Frank Lacy, Alex Weiss and Charlie Persip's big band, as well as curator of the jazz series at the Brooklyn club Laila Lounge . As a composer, Parker was awarded the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards 2004/2005. In the field of jazz and R&B he was involved in nine recording sessions between 2003 and 2013.
