The Skadows

The Skadows , also known as The Ska-Dows , were a British ska band the two-tone -time.

The band was formed in 1978 by BBC employees who had a penchant for both the music of the Shadows and ska. The Skadows' best-known song is accordingly their version of the 1960s hit "Apache" , which they released as a single in 1979 on Chas Chandler's Cheapskate label . It was a Record of the Week by BBC DJ Mike Read and was number 1 on BBC Radio 1's airplay chart .

The Skadows themselves did not see themselves as part of the 2-tone scene, but rather oriented themselves towards the original Ska and Bluebeat of the 1960s. Nevertheless, they had success in 1981 with a single with Skafans and another audience, which parodied the then star on 45 wave trend , "Skas on 45" . On this single they played various hits based on the model of Jaap Eggermont's project. The three-minute medley included Madness '"Baggy Trousers" , The Beats "Ranking Full Stop" , Bad Manners ' "Can Can" , Queens "Bohemian Rhapsody" and also "Apache" .

In total, the Skadows released five singles and the album "Ska'd for Life" , which was re-released in 1989 and 2000. On this occasion, founder Tony Sibthorpe launched a new edition of the band, whose performance at the London Astoria was released as an album and video. In 2005 Sibthorpe recorded new songs with new musicians, which he only sold on the Internet.
