The Soul Sisters is the name of an American singing duo consisting of Tresia Cleveland and Ann Gissendanner.

biography

Originally, Cleveland and Gissendanner formed the band The Canjoes together with Lou Johnson. Without the New York musician, they renamed themselves The Soul Sisters, but continued to work for the Sue Records Inc. label .

In 1964 I Can't Stand It , the first and only album by the two singers, was released . With the release of the same name , which was written by Maurice McAlister, it entered the Billboard Hot 100 in February of that year , where the song lasted 9 weeks and reached number 46. In June 1964, Good Time Tonight was followed by a smaller hit from the same album, which was only notated for a week and climbed to number 98. The single Just a Moment Ago became the last chart success of the two musicians in October of the same year and was at number 100 for a week.

Rumor has it it was Cleveland and Gissendanner who released the single Just How Much (Can One Heart Take) / Who's That Guy in 1964 under the band name The Kolettes. In 1968 the duo switched to the Veep label and released the single You Got 'em Beat , but could not build on their old successes. The Soul Sisters get along to this day and still perform together.
