The Specter (English for The specter is) a 2020 m high and striking rock spire in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . In the Gothic Mountains of the Queen Maud Mountains , it rises on the southwest flank of Mount Zanuck .
The geological team around Quin Blackburn (1900-1981) discovered them in December 1934 during the second Antarctic expedition (1933-1935) of the American polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd . It got its name from the American geologist Edmund Stump (* 1946) from Arizona State University , who worked from 1980 to 1981 as part of the United States Antarctic Research Program in the Gothic Mountains.
