The Spook (German: Der Spuk ) is a horror punk band from Essen, founded in 1999, and is one of the German pioneer bands of the genre. According to the fictional band biography, the group comes from "Gravelands, Karloffornia" and plays "Graverock Deluxe".

Band history

While strong punk rock influences could be heard on the first EP Fright Night and the first LP Some Like It Dead , this influence steadily declined. Despite the genre-typical proximity to the Misfits , The Spook already stood out on these records with punk 'n' roll elements. After a change of singer and five years without publications, Let There Be Dark was a mixture of death rock , horror punk, wave / gothic and metal , in which the punk rock portion was significantly reduced. The band calls their style "Graverock". Let There Be Dark was mastered by Mille Petrozza from Kreator and produced by Andy Sneap. Guests on the album are Yvy Pop ( Popzillas ), Dave Pybus ( Cradle of Filth ) and TB and Goolsby ( Blitzkid ). After the recordings for this album, Terence Tula left the band.

The Spook played as a support band for the Alkaline Trio and the Misfits , among others . When performing live, zombie masks and other B-movie accessories are a regular part of the show. The current singer usually appears in an outfit based on Freddy Krueger (with a striped sweater and hat).
