The Untouchables is a ska - and pop-rock - band from Silver Lake , Los Angeles , California .

biography

Inspired by the ska revival and punk rock formation The Boxboys, the group The Untouchables was founded in 1981. Since some of the founders of the band could not play an instrument , they first began to learn one or dedicated themselves to singing . The first line-up consisted of the following members: Kevin Lange (vocals), Chuck Askerneese (vocals), Terry Ellsworth ( rhythm guitar ), Clyde Grimes ( guitar ), Rob Lampron ( drums ), Herman Askerneese ( bass ) and Jerry Miller (vocals , Timbales ).

In its early days, The Untouchables was a West Coast ska band, but influences from R&B and reggae rhythms quickly followed . The 1984 debut album Live and Let Dance was a mixture of pop rock, ska and reggae. In the meantime there had also been initial changes in line-up. Derek Breakfield (bass) and Anthony Brewster ( keyboard ) were new , the drummers and horn players changed several times. From the second album Wild Child (1985), which was able to place in the UK charts , the releases Free Yourself and I Spy for the FBI reached positions in the English single charts. After the EP Dance Party (1986) the band took a two-year hiatus.

With the album Agent 00 Soul , which was inspired by Edwin Starr's 1965 album Agent Double-O-Soul , the group reported back in 1988. At the time of recording, the band consisted of Chuck Askerneese and Jerry Miller (vocals), Clyde Grimes (guitar, vocals), Derek Breakfield (bass, vocals), Anthony Brewster (keyboards, vocals) and Willie McNeil (drums). The record rose to number 162 on the US charts . The last long player to date , A Decade of Dance Live , was released in 1990.
