The Weather Network (TWN) is an English-speaking Canadian television station that broadcasts only current weather information around the clock. The station is headquartered in Oakville , Ontario and operated by Pelmorex Media Inc. Pelmorex Media operates another French-speaking weather channel, MétéoMédia, which serves the Montreal and Greater Québec region . Furthermore, radio stations are operated that report on the current weather situation.
history
The Weather Network began broadcasting its programming on September 1, 1988 as WeatherNow. At the time, the transmitter was owned by Lavalin Inc. In the early days, technical difficulties arose when trying to transmit TWN and the French-language program of MétéoMédia on a television signal via an analog transponder on the Canadian Anik satellite . This problem was solved by the parallel broadcast via two signals, which broadcast the main program on the first and regional weather reports on the second. On May 1, 1989, WeatherNow was renamed The Weather Channel. In 1992 graphic weather boards and weather maps were introduced. On May 2, 1998, the station moved from Montreal to Mississauga , Ontario. In 1999 a revamped more modern website was launched that was easy to use. The website provided up-to-date weather information and weather warnings in the event of severe weather. In November 2005, the station moved to Oakville, a suburb of Toronto.
