The West Australian is an Australian daily newspaper . Their Sunday edition is called The Sunday Times . The publisher is West Australian Newspapers Ltd. based in Perth .

It is the second oldest newspaper still in production in Australia . Its first edition appeared in 1833. During the week the circulation is 200,000, on Saturday the newspaper reaches 370,000 readers.

The product is published in tabloid format.

The West is politically populist with a strictly conservative orientation. Former Prime Minister Paul Keating described the newspaper as the worst in Australia. The newspaper contains international, national and local news. The newspaper also publishes WestWeekend Magazine , which is included in the Saturday edition.

history

The West Australian has its origins in The Perth Gazette and Western Australian Journal , the first edition of which appeared on January 5, 1833. The postmaster of Perth , Charles Macfaull, founded and created the sheet originally as a four-page weekly newspaper. It Until 1864, The West Australian always appeared on Saturdays, then on Fridays. It was later renamed The Perth Gazette and published by Arthur Shenton. On June 26, 1874, the newspaper was finally bought by a group of entrepreneurs and renamed The Western Australian Times - this also resulted in the first publication on two days of the week. On November 18, 1879, the newspaper was re-established as The West Australian . After the circulation was increased to three days a week in 1883, it was published daily two years later. In 1885, The Western Mail was first published by the owners of "The West Australian". Among the most famous authors were u. a. Sir Paul Hasluck .
