History of origin

In 2000, the television station NBC secured the adaptation rights to Jordan's work Das Rad der Zeit , but left them unused. Four years later, Jordan sold the adaptation rights to Red Eagle Entertainment. In 2015 they produced a 22-minute pilot episode for the cable broadcaster FXX, so Red Eagle could keep the adaptation rights. Harriet McDougal, Jordan's widow, who was already discussing a new adaptation deal with Sony, disliked the approach. Since she made this public, she was subsequently sued by Red Eagle Entertainment for her comments. However, the lawsuit was dropped in 2016.

In cooperation between Red Eagle Entertainment, Sony Pictures Television and Radar Pictures, a new adaptation of The Wheel of Time was finally announced on April 20, 2017 . It was Rafe Judkins as showrunner and McDougal as consulting producer being considered. Rick Selvage, Larry Mondragon, Ted Field, Mike Weber and Darren Lemke have been appointed executive producers.

On October 2, 2018, Amazon announced that it had ordered the wheel of time as a series and was also involved in the series as a production company. The series is produced for its own streaming service Prime Video .

In June 2019, it was finally announced that Uta Briesewitz would direct the first two episodes. In July of the same year it was also announced that Rosamund Pike would play the protagonist Moiraine. In August 2019, the cast was announced for five more leading roles. Filming began on September 16, 2019.
