The wheel of time
The Wheel of Time (English The Wheel of Time ) is a fantasy -Romanzyklus the US writer Robert Jordan , who appeared for the 1990th With Jordan's death on September 16, 2007 from amyloidosis , the fate of the series was initially uncertain, but before his death Jordan had passed on the most important details of the story and how he intended to end it to his family. He had already finished the ending too. On December 10, 2007, it was announced that Robert Jordan's widow and editor Harriet McDougal would replace the author Brandon Sandersonto complete the last volumes of the cycle. The series ended on January 8, 2013 with the release of A Memory of Light .
The German translation was first published by Heyne Verlag , with the content of the individual original volumes being divided into up to four German volumes. Thus, a total of 15 English volumes were distributed among 37 German ones. In 2004 Heyne gave the entire cycle of novels to Piper-Verlag .
In addition, there is a pen & paper adaptation for the d20 system and a computer game from GT Interactive , which are set against the backdrop of the novel cycle.

content
The cycle revolves around the struggle between "good" and "bad". The farmer's son Rand al'Thor grows up in the isolated area of the Two Rivers until he and some friends have to flee from an attack by shadowy creatures. The attack is unexpectedly carried out by animal men , the Trollocs , who have long been believed to be ancient legends and mythical creatures in this area . They are supported in their escape by Moiraine, an Aes Sedai (similar to a magician who can direct Saidar , the female side of the One Power ). Only women are allowed to use the One Power , since Saidin , the male half, has been tainted with the stain of Shai'tan , the lord of the grave (a power figure over the followers of evil that was not initially personified), since the Aes Sedai Lews Therin Telamon - the dragon - 3000 years ago in a desperate attempt to deny this creature access to the world, Shai'tan captured Shai'tan directly with Saidin . This contact with the male half of the True Source leads to the fact that all men who want to use Saidin , sooner or later go mad and as a consequence often devastate the land with their magical powers. As fate all male Aes Sedai after touching Shai'tans by Saidin suffered the same time, this led to the destruction of the world and the end of the Age of Legends . After several thousand years of rest, the 13 most powerful followers of the shadow, the lost who regard themselves as chosen , who were trapped in the Shayol Ghoul together with Shai'tan , can free themselves from their prison outside of time, the followers of evil want the world again plunge into chaos and shape according to their ideas, and - the dragon was reborn.
The rest of the story contains many elements of the schema of a high fantasy novel founded by JRR Tolkien , among others , but also enriches this genre with something new. Robert Jordan presents the reader with a world in which there is always something new to discover and introduces numerous species and peoples throughout history. Most of them are human, but they differ greatly in their customs. Another focus is on the relationships between the numerous people. Characteristic for the series are the detailed exploration of clothing and fashions, the narration from many perspectives, with Jordan's writing style adapting to the respective protagonist, detailed descriptions of the world, many subplot strands and an overall slow pace in the progression of the plot compared to other fantasy cycles.
List of novels
The 15 English originals have been published since the early 1990s, divided into two to four German paperback books, apart from the undivided prequel , so that in the end there were 37 German paperbacks. In the meantime, the German volumes have been published as a book and an e-book under the title Das Rad der Zeit - Das Original . The only difference to the paperback editions seems to be the inclusion of a short history Raben ( Earlier - Ravens ) in Volume 1, which Jordan had written for an edition of The Eye of the World that was marketed as a youth book .

The German volume 29, Der neue Frühling , is a prequel to the series, which will not be continued until the 30th volume.
A Memory Of Light was originally announced as the twelfth and final band. Because of its size, it has been divided into three volumes: The Gathering Storm , Towers of Midnight, and A Memory Of Light . The latter was released on January 8, 2013.
There is also The World of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time , a “non-fiction book” that provides information on the history, peoples, animals and plants of the fictional world. Since the non-fiction book was written and published before the completion of the novel cycle, the developments in the world from the volumes published below are not taken into account.

Prequels and side stories
The prequel New Spring tells the story of Siuan Sanche and Moiraine Damodred. According to his own statement, after completing the twelfth volume, Jordan planned two more prequels and perhaps a three-part side story in addition to The New Spring :
- Background 2: Why did Tam al'Thor save a baby and give up his successful military career to return home with his wife?
- Previous story 3: How did Moiraine and Lan manage to appear in the Two Rivers at just the right time, just before the Trollocs appeared?

filming
In August 2008, Universal Pictures announced that it would film the series of novels. There should be several films, and a seven-figure sum was paid for the film rights. It should start with the first volume in the series, “The Eye Of The World”. These plans have failed; instead, there should now be at least a first season of a series that should have the first volume, Eye of the World , as its content. The series is produced by Amazon Studios in collaboration with Sony Entertainment. Production is scheduled to start in autumn 2019. In addition to Rafe Judkins as showrunner , Jordan's widow Harriet McDougal and producers from Red Eagle Entertainment, whose disagreements over a previously planned film adaptation in 2015 led to a lawsuit for defamation , are also involved. The series will be distributed via Amazon's own video-on-demand service Prime Video .

Computer games
The Wheel of Time
The PC game Wheel of Time by Legend Entertainment was released on November 11, 1999 and is based on the Unreal Engine .
The player takes on the role of Elayna Sedai, an Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah. This is the keeper of the chronicles and is not able to touch the One Power herself. Therefore, she relies on magical artifacts, the so-called Ter'Angreale , to work magic. These Ter'Angreale can be collected in the course of the game and are consumed by their use. The game concept is therefore more like a first person shooter , in which weapons and ammunition can be picked up , than a role-playing game , but is also expanded to include additional defensive skills such as shields that can be cast with the Ter'Angrealen . In the multiplayer mode, either a classic deathmatch or the citadel mode can be played, a kind of capture the flag , which also offers the possibility of setting up traps in your own base.
More games
In 2009 the film studio Red Eagle Entertainment announced that it was planning several computer game implementations and a film adaptation of the novel series. In addition to various games for PC and consoles, an online game is also planned. The games are to be published by Electronic Arts .
