The Woman in Red by Stevie Wonder is the soundtrack album for the film Die Frau in Rot from 1984. In addition to Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick also sang three songs on the soundtrack.
The album includes I Just Called to Say I Love You Wonders greatest hit. The song was named Best Song at the 1985 Academy Awards . As singles also have been Lovelight in Flight and Do not Drive Drunk decoupled.
The album reached number 4 in the US album charts and number 2 in the UK.
Emergence
The film producers had already engaged Dionne Warwick for the film music when they asked their label colleague Stevie Wonder for some compositions for the film. Seven of the eight compositions are by Wonder, the instrumental piece It's More Than You is by Ben Bridges, a session musician with whom Wonder has worked since 1976. The songs It's You and Weakness were recorded as a duet by Wonder and Warwick, with Momenta Aren't Moments Warwick sings alone. With I Just Called to Say I Love You , Wonder also used a song that he had already written in the late 1970s, but which had not yet been released. This led to controversy after winning the Oscars as the best movie song, because the award rules state that a title can only be awarded if it was written for the film.
The album was recorded and mixed at Wonderland Studios in Los Angeles and produced by Wonder together with Gary Olazabal, with whom Wonder had worked for several years. Released in 1984 by Motown Records as a vinyl long-playing record and music cassette, followed in 1987 as a compact disk .

reception
The film music album was certified in November 1984 with a platinum record from the RIAA and in February 1985 with a platinum record from the BPI.
In particular, the music video for I Just Called to Say I Love You , in which Wonder sits at the piano with dark sunglasses and a glittery suit and holds an oversized red telephone receiver to his ear with his head swaying left and right, was often parodied.
