The Theater Altenburg Gera gGmbH is a five-part theater in the Free State of Thuringia, which was created from the merger of the Landestheater Altenburg with the stages of the city of Gera in 1995. The original name after the merger was Altenburg-Gera Theater GmbH. In 2006 the name was changed to TPT Theater & Philharmonie Thüringen GmbH. From 2019 the theater will operate under the name of Theater Altenburg Gera. General director and artistic director has been Kay Kuntze since 2011 , opera director since 2012, commercial director since 2015 Volker Arnold, general music director of the Altenburg Philharmonic Orchestra since 2013 Laurent Wagner , drama director since 2017 Manuel Kressin , director of the puppet theater since 2011 Sabine Schramm, ballet director since 2011 Silvana Schröder . Since January 1, 2013, the ballet division has been operating as the Thuringian State Ballet . With around 150,000 visitors annually, it is the theater with the most spectators in Thuringia.

Altenburg State Theater

The large house was built in the neo-renaissance style from 1869–1871 according to a design by the architect Otto Brückwald and inaugurated on April 16, 1871 with “ Der Freischütz ” by Carl Maria von Weber . In 1904/1905 it was rebuilt again and got its distinctive porch. In 1947 the theater was given a revolving stage .

The large hall has a capacity of 492 seats. In 1995 the theater was completely renovated. Other venues are the theater under the roof and the boiler house .

Stages in the city of Gera

In Gera four houses are played ( Large House , Stage at the Park, Puppet Theater and the TheaterFABRIK in the Tonhalle). The large house was built according to a design by the architect Heinrich Seeling and inaugurated on October 20, 1902. The theater has a theater hall with 550 seats and a concert hall with 812 seats, which has a Sauer organ .

In the years 2005 to 2007 the building underwent extensive overall renovation, restoration, reconstruction and modernization. The modern extension used as an interim venue by Gera architect Klaus Sorger from 2005 with a workshop stage, canteen and office space is still used today as a secondary venue ("stage at the park").
