Laurent Wagner (* 1960 in Lyon ) is a French conductor .

Training and engagements

Laurent Wagner has been General Music Director at Theater Altenburg / Gera ( Theater & Philharmonie Thuringia ) since September 2013 .

After graduating from high school, Laurent Wagner studied piano, bassoon, composition and chamber music at the Conservatoire régional de Lyon and at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (CNSMDP) before joining Karl Österreicher's Kapellmeister class at the Vienna University of Music in 1982 . There he graduated with honors both in accompaniment practice and in conducting.

Wagner went through the classical career as Kapellmeister after he had developed a large operatic repertoire during his studies. After first positions as a repetitor and Kapellmeister in Heidelberg , Gelsenkirchen , Wuppertal and as maestro interno at the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona and as 1st Kapellmeister / Deputy General Music Director at the Theater Dortmund , Laurent Wagner was appointed General Music Director at the Saarland State Theater Saarbrücken in 1994 , where he - in addition to concerts and opera premieres with a focus on the German repertoire - projects such as the performance of Messiaen's Turangalîla symphony , Alban Berg's entire orchestral work, whose operas Wozzeck and Lulu and Schönberg's Moses and Aron realized within a cycle of “ Viennese Modernism ”.

In 2006 and 2007 he taught at the International Vocal Arts Institute (IVAI) in Tel Aviv, where he studied Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio and Le nozze di Figaro with young singers , and as a visiting professor at the Paris Conservatory and, since 2013, at the Conservatory in Rennes.

Numerous radio recordings, concert recordings and CDs testify to the breadth and diversity of his artistic work. Laurent Wagner works as a guest conductor in and outside Europe.
