The Vogtland Philharmonie Greiz / Reichenbach is a German symphony orchestra and was founded in 1992 through the merger of the State Symphony Orchestra Greiz with the State Vogtland Orchestra Reichenbach.

Details

The orchestra, comprising 65 musicians, is carried by the Free States of Thuringia and Saxony , the district of Greiz and the Vogtland district as well as the two cities of Greiz and Reichenbach .

The Vogtland Philharmonic performs regularly in Greiz, Reichenbach and the entire Saxon-Thuringian region, as well as in German music centers and on concert tours and the like. a. in China , Spain , Austria , the Czech Republic , the USA and Turkey .

The musical spectrum ranges from symphonic concerts, choral symphonies and concerts in historical costumes to film music to classic open airs and “Philharmonic Rock”. For years the orchestra has been a partner at the Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition , the Klingenthal International Accordion Competition and the Greizer Stavenhagen Competition. To promote the next generation of musicians, it developed a series of educational concerts and special projects such as “Kids meet Classic”. The Vogtland Philharmonic produced a large number of different CDs.

General music director Stefan Fraas is the artistic director and managing director of the Vogtland Philharmonic . Since the 2020/2021 season, Dorian Keilhack has been chief conductor of the orchestra and thus the successor to Hans-Rainer Förster (1992–1994), Doron Salomon (1995–2003), Jiří Malát (2004–2013) and David Marlow (2014–2020), The honorary conductor is Lothar Seyfarth.
