The Theater des Ostens was a German touring theater .

history

It was founded in 1990 as the first and only touring theater in the New Federal States by Vera Oelschlegel , Gregor Edelmann and André Plath with the aim of developing closed ensemble performances at a high linguistic and performance level. In doing so, manual theater work based on old training should be performed.

The production The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco was awarded the 2nd prize of the 2003/04 season by the members of the community of interests of the cities with theater guest performances INTHEGA . In addition, the production was awarded the Balingen Theater Prize for the best performance of the 2003/04 season by the Balingen audience. The main roles are played by Dieter Wien (William von Baskerville), Fabian Oscar Wien (Adson von Melk) and Helmut Krauss (Abbot Abo), Vera Oelschlegel is the director, Reinhart Zimmermann sets the stage and Elke Eckardt does the costumes.

As announced in 2012, the theater stopped touring after the 2012/2013 season.
