The former school in Borner, the place where the TiC was founded

The Theater in Cronenberg (TiC) is a non-profit- making theater in the Wuppertal district of Cronenberg .

The TiC was founded in 1986 not far from the center of Cronenberg in a school building built in 1831, the former Borner school , as part of a communication center. The original name "Theater in der Borner Schule" (TIBS) was given up after a year in favor of the one that is still valid today.

Under the direction of its first artistic director, the director Ronald F. Stürzebecher, the theater opened on February 28, 1986 with Lope de Vegas The Knight of the Miracle . The artists initially worked free of charge or for an expense allowance . The TiC Club was founded in 1988 and has supported the theater ever since. Even today, budding actors are given the opportunity to gain their first professional stage experience in the theater .

The main focus of the program is on boulevard , satirical and small musical performances as well as productions for children and young people. However, works from the classical and serious repertoire were always performed. The theater now has four venues with 70–99 seats.

Since the end of 2007, the theater has been run in the form of a non-profit GmbH , which is supported by an advisory board that is knowledgeable about economic and financial issues . Director Ralf Budde and musician Stefan Hüfner are the managing directors of the GmbH and thus the head of the TiC. With over 300 performances per year and around 25,000 visitors annually, the TiC is very popular with the public, who also come from neighboring cities. The TiC generates 80% of its budget through the sale of subscriptions and tickets. The remaining share is mainly contributed by the members of the TiC Club, sponsors and donations. The TiC is thus on solid financial footing. Since 2008 the Tic has also been offering theater courses for children, teenagers and adults.

Some well-known people from German television and theater life are connected to the history of the TiC, including comedian Axel Stein , the actors Christoph Maria Herbst and Simon Mehlich , the musical actors Patrick Stanke , Alen Hodzovic and Patrizia Margagliotta as well as the singer and presenter Luca Vasta ; they all gained stage experience at the TiC.
