The property at Borner Straße 1 (sometimes also called Borner Schule ) is a former school building in the center of the Wuppertal district of Cronenberg .

Building description

The two-storey building has a simple, structured plaster facade. The eaves side to the south has seven axes and the gable side to the east has three axes.

On the hipped roof are on the south side two dormers .

history

The construction of the school building began in the then independent community of Cronenberg in 1830 north behind the Reformed village church . The school was inaugurated on May 25, 1831; the construction costs amounted to 7,698 thalers.

In December 1984 the association “Borner Schule-Kulturzentrum Cronenberg” was founded in order to use the building, which was formerly used as a school building, as a cultural center ; the school had been closed a few years earlier. With financial help from the state and the city, the building was renovated and reopened as a cultural center on February 28, 1986. In addition to a district library of the city ​​library , a gallery café, a music station, a pottery workshop, a children's drama school and the small theater - theater in the Borner Schule (TIBS) moved into the building. From the 1986/87 season, the TIBS became the theater in Cronenberg .

On August 30, 1985, the building was recognized as a monument and entered in the list of monuments of the city of Wuppertal.
