Henning von Ahlefeldt (born August 31, 1705 in Olpenitz ; † April 23, 1778 ) was the Royal Danish Chamberlain and Privy Councilor .

Life

He was the only son of the noble landowner Detlev von Ahlefeldt (1677–1718) on Gelting and his wife Auguste nee. from Rumohr . His wife was Anna Sophie Wohnsfeld, the widow of District Administrator Christian Friedrich Baron von Liliencron, who died in 1731, and was the lord of Blumendorf, Olpenitz, Wulfshagen and Wulfshagener Hütten.

As a youth, Henning von Ahlefeldt caused quite a stir as a chamberlain in Copenhagen . He had a love affair with Charlotte Amalie Skeel, the wife of State Minister Rosenkrantz, and visited her one evening in December 1733. To his surprise, he came across a rival, the eldest son of the former Grand Chancellor Count Holstein. In the ensuing argument, von Ahlefeldt pulled his sword and inflicted several wounds on his rival, whereupon the latter fled. This incident was reported to the king and Henning von Ahlefeld was expelled from the court and his salary confiscated. The Minister of State Rosenkrantz was forced to ask the king for forgiveness for his wife's carelessness.

In June 1734 Henning von Ahlefeld received the king's forgiveness. In 1738 he was appointed Jägermeister in the counties of Oldenburg and Delmenhorst . In 1740 he was appointed chief forester , in 1749 he was appointed royal chamberlain and in 1761 a privy councilor . He died of gallbladder disease on April 23, 1778 and was buried in the church in Karby . With him the line of those from Ahlefeldts zu Gelting died out.
