Theegarten-Pactec is a German manufacturer of packaging machines and systems for packaging small products, mainly confectionery . In addition, theegarten-Pactec machines are also used to pack other foods such as stock cubes , dishwasher tablets and other non-food items. The packaging machines sold worldwide are developed and produced exclusively in Germany.

history

In 1994 the Cologne company Rose-Theegarten took over the Dresden-Reick- based company Pactec. Both companies look back on a long tradition in packaging machine construction.

1820s start of industrial production and packaging of confectionery in Dresden

Saxony - especially Dresden - was already the center of chocolate production at the beginning of the 19th century. The raw sugar reached this place safely, cheaply and comparatively quickly from Hamburg across the Elbe . And so the industrial production of chocolate began in the city as early as 1828. Growing demand led manufacturers to package their products more efficiently and to automate the packaging process. The very first machine factories that faced the new challenges and focused on the competence field of packaging technology were the predecessors of the later Pactec GmbH and thus of Theegarten-Pactec.

1934 Rose GmbH Factory for the manufacture of packaging machines in Cologne

Justus Theegarten knew about the great need for packaging machines in Germany, the economy that was getting going again after the inflation. He was firmly convinced that advancing industrialization would require new, more productive and automated solutions, especially in the packaging machine construction segment, and founded the family company with six employees in Cologne-Ehrenfeld with his son Franz. The notarial deed of incorporation dates the birthday to October 19, 1934. From then on, Theegarten produced machines under license from the English machine factory Rose Brothers Ltd.

In addition to license production, Rose-Theegarten began developing its own packaging machines.

1962 Establishment and inauguration of the factory premises in Dresden

The VEB chocolate pack was as a conglomerate founded various traditional companies from the Dresdner packaging machinery in 1950, but has since remained physically and logistically fragmented view of their production segments. Over the years, therefore, the plans and measures to build a completely new central plant for all companies involved on the Breitscheidstrasse 46 property in Dresden-Reick have become more concrete. Exactly where Theegarten-Pactec will still be based in 2020.

1960s - 1970s Cologne high-performance machines conquer international markets

The Olympia H1 caramel forming and fold wrapping machine came onto the market as early as 1960. It packed a maximum of 1,300 candies per minute at a mechanical output of 650 cycles per minute. The H1 was a breakthrough for Rose-Theegarten. It was not only used in the confectionery industry, but also for the packaging of stock cubes. Another milestone of this time was the U1, newly developed in 1969, with which 1,000 pieces per minute could be wrapped in a twist wrap and 850 in a fold wrap, as well as the A3 universal packaging machine for hard sweets. All machines were also exported beyond European borders.

1970 Foundation of the Nagema combine in Dresden

Nagema was until 1990 the amalgamation of mechanical engineering companies with headquarters in Dresden. The keyword is added in each case two first letters of the areas Na hrungs-, Ge nut medium and Ma mechanical engineering. In the course of the state economic planning of the GDR, branch-related state-owned enterprises were brought together, the importance of which was classified as central and therefore significant. In the areas of food and luxury food machine construction, the combine companies manufactured a wide variety of machines for meat processing, the beverage industry and also the confectionery industry. VEB Verpackungsmaschinenbau Dresden was declared the parent company of thirteen companies and the seat of a specialist institute .

1981 The development of the continuous working principle

Building on decades of experience, a completely new generation of machines was developed in the form of a continuously operating high-performance system for hard caramels. Kombinat Nagema presented the EK1 packaging machine, which wrapped 1,300 products per minute, at the Leipzig spring fair and at interpack 1981. Operated by just one person, a combined packaging line consisting of four EK1s, for example, together with a storage and distribution system, was able to pack 5,000 items per minute.

1991 Foundation of Pactec Dresden

In the course of German reunification on October 3, 1990, the Nagema State Combine was converted into a stock corporation. As part of the restructuring, VEB Verpackungsmaschinenbau Dresden broke away from the Nagema network and was founded as Verpackungsmaschinenbau GmbH. It was renamed Pactec GmbH in July 1991.

1994 Theegarten-Pactec is founded

Theegarten-Pactec was created from the purchase of Pactec GmbH by Rose-Theegarten von der Treuhand .

1997 Dresden becomes the sole location

In the beginning, it was firmly assumed that both locations in Cologne and Dresden would continue to exist, but soon realized that the planned synergy effects did not result. In the course of an evaluation, the choice finally fell on Dresden, as the Cologne company premises were too small to merge the two companies.

2008 Flexible high-performance machines

Changing the packaging style of the products has always been extremely complicated with the continuous high-performance machines, so that they could basically only be used as "single-purpose machines". For machine development at Theegarten-Pactec, this meant that machines had to be developed that could also be flexibly converted in the high-performance area. This resulted in the development of a continuously operating generation of machines that can be flexibly converted to up to six different types of folding.

2015 Inauguration of the new company building

Inauguration of the new manufacturing / assembly complex and office building at the company headquarters in Dresden. With an investment of around 30 million euros, it was the largest investment in the history of the packaging machine manufacturer.
