history

Theene began to be settled in the Middle Ages, when coastal residents who had fled from earlier storm surges settled here. Together with the residents of Uthwerdum and Victorbur, they built the St. Victor Church in Victorbur , to whose parish the place is still affiliated today. Politically, the place was also affiliated with Victorbur for a long time . With him the village belonged to the Vogtei Oldeborg in the Aurich district. In the years of French rule from 1810 to 1813, the Mairie Victorbur was founded, to which Victorbur, Uthwerdum with Victorburer Marsch, Theene, Neuekels and Moordorf belonged. The place has been politically independent since 1876 and has been part of the Aurich district since 1885 .
